Developing cylinder for a pulp mill application can always have its list of challenges. In this case we were asked to manufacture a stainless cylinder that can handle a 400°F temperature environment.
The heads, barrel and piston rod were made with 316 stainless material. Piston seal is a double acting TFE ring with a Viton energizer o-ring, which provided good pressure and temperature ratings. To support the piston we were able to utilize a BF TFE wear strip that is low friction, provides great wear resistance, and rated up to 490°F temperature.
When designing something for high temperatures we are always thinking about the materials used and how we join them together. Everything from the fastener styles selected to the type of Loctite used during assembly needed to be considered.
We were happy to design this line of product for such a demanding application.
