High Performance Hydraulic Cylinders
For this project the customer was seeking a suite of cylinders for a range of high-performance hydraulic actuators to support a large-scale structural load test for the aerospace industry. The actuators operate at 3,500 psi and met demanding compression force requirements—ranging from 15,000 to over 1,000,000 pounds—across six actuator sizes 6”, 7” , 8”, 10”, 14” and 20” diameter bores. Each unit needed to be designed with robust features including precision buckling analysis, cartridge-style rod glands, low-leakage replaceable seals, and compatibility with MTS Temposonic RD4/GD4 linear transducers. Actuators were equipped with full mounting hardware, clevises, and lifting provisions, and designed for long-term service under high humidity and temperature extremes.
8" Bore Pneumatic Cylinder
This 8” Bore pneumatic cylinder was designed for a heavy duty mill application. It needed an extra long fully threaded rod end for maximum adjustability and strength, coupled with a replaceable gland bushing, and extended cushion to minimize impact. This cylinder, like all Royal Cylinders was designed to be easily rebuildable back to OEM condition with only a seal kit and regular maintenance schedule.
Electric E-Series
The Royal Electric E-Series actuator was designed to solve the high demands of the veneer and plywood production industry. Utilizing our 65 years of experience in designing durable cylinders, we set out and developed the toughest electric cylinder on the world market today. Working with Altec Integrated Technology, who designs and builds the machinery and systems controls for the veneer industry, we introduced our cylinders in the toughest application imaginable, a Veneer Charger and Lathe Carriage.
Our E Series actuators use a planetary roller screw with precision ground threaded rollers that provide a large load capacity and longer life due to having many more contact points between the rollers and the threads of the screw. Our solid steel construction allows our actuators to withstand the harshest of environments. Incorporating bronze rod scrapers, induction hardened chrome plated (IHCP) or nitrided output rods and solid steel one-piece trunnions these units provide a heavy-duty rugged solution in the smallest housing possible, while maintaining high-speed capabilities and a long working life.
5" Bore 5000psi Hydraulic Cylinder
These 5” Bore 5000 psi hydraulic cylinders were designed to be installed in an exposed outdoor marine environment in a dusty and salt laden atmosphere. Design included heavy duty brass rod scrapers on chrome plated stainless steel piston rods and then painted with an extreme duty epoxy paint system to meet ISO 12944-2 corrosivity category C4.
High Performance Large Bore Cylinder Project For Entire Mill.
Many times Royal is asked to design and manufacture ALL the cylinders required in a new mill or test platform. In this particular case the cylinders ranged in size from 6″ to 20″ bore with the heaviest cylinders weighing in at over 12,000 pounds.
While these cylinders may look complicated they are all design with the same philosophy. Easy of use and ability to do maintenance. All leading to no unplanned down time.
